Extract the icon image
Open the ICNS with an ICNS-aware utility and export the representation you need as PNG or another browser-readable raster image. This page cannot decode the ICNS container or extract an icon from an application bundle.

Fileverses does not decode ICNS uploads, so this is not a direct ICNS-to-PNG converter. Extract the icon image with an ICNS-aware utility, then add the resulting PNG or another browser-readable raster image here. Fileverses encodes the decoded canvas pixels as a lossless PNG locally in your browser.

About this converter
ICNS is a macOS icon container that can hold several icon representations and sizes, while PNG is one raster image. Fileverses recognizes ICNS as a source type but rejects it at upload because its browser conversion path cannot decode an ICNS container, choose one of its representations, or extract an icon from an application bundle. First use an ICNS-aware utility to export the representation you want as PNG or another browser-readable raster image, choosing the pixel dimensions before conversion. Fileverses decodes that extracted raster image, draws its pixels to a browser canvas, and asks the browser to encode a PNG. PNG encoding is lossless for those browser-canvas pixels; it is not a direct ICNS decode or a byte-for-byte recovery of an image stored in the container. The downloaded PNG can retain alpha only when decoded alpha is present. It does not create transparency, crop artwork, remove or replace a background, recover vector artwork, restore detail from a small icon, or guarantee a particular output size. Keep the ICNS and extracted image when you may need another representation later.
How it works
Open the ICNS with an ICNS-aware utility and export the representation you need as PNG or another browser-readable raster image. This page cannot decode the ICNS container or extract an icon from an application bundle.
Drop, paste, or choose the raster export and keep PNG selected. Fileverses reads it locally, decodes it, and draws its pixels to a browser canvas without changing the crop or background.
Create the lossless browser-pixel PNG, then review its dimensions, visible edges, decoded transparency if any, and file size in the destination where you plan to use it.
Made for real pipelines
Convert without uploading your assets. Switch outputs anytime — web, print, icons, and document targets from the same batch.
Convert an extracted icon image to PNGExtract a browser-readable icon image with an ICNS-aware utility first: this page does not decode ICNS containers or extract icons from application bundles.
For a supported extracted image, Fileverses encodes the decoded canvas pixels as PNG locally. Lossless describes that browser-pixel PNG, not original ICNS-byte recovery.
PNG can retain decoded alpha from the extracted image, but Fileverses does not invent transparency, crop artwork, remove backgrounds, or guarantee the output file size.
Good to know
No. Fileverses identifies ICNS files but rejects them because its browser conversion path does not decode ICNS containers, choose an icon representation, or extract an icon from an application bundle. Export a PNG or another browser-readable raster image with an ICNS-aware utility first, then convert that image to PNG here.
Choose the representation whose pixel dimensions fit the destination and inspect it before upload. This page does not choose among ICNS entries, enlarge a small icon with recovered detail, or recreate vector artwork, so keep the original ICNS if you may need another representation later.
For a supported extracted raster image, Fileverses asks the browser to encode PNG from the decoded canvas pixels, and PNG encoding is lossless for those pixels. That does not make it a direct ICNS decode, preserve an original image byte-for-byte, or restore detail absent from the extracted icon.
PNG can carry alpha, so decoded alpha in the extracted raster image can be represented in the PNG. Fileverses does not create transparency, crop the icon, remove a background, or automatically replace a background; inspect the extracted image and downloaded PNG for the result you need.
No. The conversion cannot sharpen a soft icon, recover missing detail, restore vector artwork, or guarantee a smaller or particular-size file. Final size depends on the extracted image, its dimensions, and the browser PNG encoder, so compare the download when size matters.
No. Supported raster images are converted in your browser and are not sent to a conversion server. You can queue up to 50 files under 50 MB each; a decoded image over 12 megapixels is rejected.
