Fileverses

Free online ICO to AVIF converter

Create AVIF from a browser-decoded ICO,when your browser can read the icon.

Fileverses converts an ICO only when the current browser can decode it into an image. It then draws that browser-rendered icon to a canvas and creates AVIF locally at a fixed 0.7 quality setting, only when AVIF canvas encoding is available. No conversion server receives the file.

About this converter

Free ICO to AVIF conversion, built for a real workflow.

ICO is an icon container commonly used for Windows icons and favicons; it can hold more than one embedded image and size. AVIF is a compressed raster image format for modern image delivery. Fileverses treats an ICO as a browser-readable image only when the current browser can decode it. The browser supplies one rendered icon image to the canvas; this page does not inspect the ICO container, choose a particular embedded entry, or recreate vector artwork. It then asks the browser to encode those decoded pixels as AVIF at the app’s fixed 0.7 quality setting. AVIF output is available only when the browser can create a real image/avif canvas blob. The conversion cannot recover detail from a small or soft icon, crop artwork, remove a background, or promise a smaller file. Check the downloaded AVIF at its intended size and in the browsers or services where you will use it.

How it works

Upload once.
Export AVIF.

01

Add an ICO your browser can decode

Drop, paste, or choose an ICO file. If the browser cannot read that icon container, export the intended icon image to PNG or another browser-readable raster format before using this page.

02

Keep AVIF selected when available

The page draws the browser-rendered icon to a local canvas and requests AVIF at fixed 0.7 quality. AVIF is available only in browsers that support image/avif canvas encoding.

03

Download and inspect the result

Review dimensions, edges, alpha if any, file size, and appearance at the intended size. Test the AVIF in the browsers, site, or service that will receive it.

Made for real pipelines

Convert without uploading your assets. Switch outputs anytime — web, print, icons, and document targets from the same batch.

Convert a browser-decoded ICO to AVIF
01

Browser-decoded icon workflow

Convert an ICO only when the current browser can decode it; the page works from the single rendered icon image the browser supplies, not from selected container entries.

02

Fixed-quality local AVIF

For a decoded icon, Fileverses requests browser canvas encoding at the app’s fixed 0.7 AVIF quality setting without sending the file to a conversion server.

03

Destination-aware review

Inspect the downloaded AVIF at the intended size, then verify its file size and AVIF support in the browser, site, or service that will receive it.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Can Fileverses convert every ICO file directly to AVIF?+

No. Fileverses can convert an ICO only when the current browser decodes it into an image. If decoding fails, export the icon image you need as PNG or another browser-readable raster format first, then create AVIF from that image here.

Which image inside my ICO file will be converted?+

The browser supplies one rendered ICO image to the conversion canvas. Fileverses does not inspect the ICO container, list its embedded entries, or let you choose a particular icon size, so verify the rendered result and keep the original ICO when you need a specific entry later.

Why is AVIF missing from the output choices?+

AVIF is offered only after Fileverses confirms that the current browser can create an image/avif canvas blob. If it is absent, use a browser with AVIF canvas-encoding support or choose another available output format.

Will ICO to AVIF improve quality or always make the icon smaller?+

No. Fileverses requests AVIF at a fixed 0.7 quality setting from the browser canvas. It cannot restore detail missing from the decoded icon, and final file size depends on the rendered dimensions, image content, and browser encoder. Compare the download when quality or size matters.

Does this conversion crop the icon or remove its background?+

No. Fileverses encodes the browser-decoded raster pixels without cropping artwork or removing a background. AVIF can carry alpha, but conversion does not create transparency; the result depends on the decoded icon and browser encoder.

Are ICO files uploaded, and what are the limits?+

No. Supported ICO images are converted in your browser and are not sent to a conversion server. You can queue up to 50 files under 50 MB each; a decoded image over 12 megapixels is rejected.
