Free GIF to AVIF converter
Add a GIF and Fileverses draws its first displayed frame to a browser canvas before requesting an AVIF download. The result is one still AVIF, not an animated conversion. AVIF appears only when this browser can create AVIF files, and the source GIF stays on your device.

About this converter
GIF can contain animation, while this route uses the browser’s image-decoding and canvas path to make one raster AVIF still. It draws the GIF’s first displayed frame, then asks the browser to encode that canvas as AVIF at the app’s fixed 0.7 quality setting. That is useful when a single frame is the asset you need for a modern browser-aware destination. It is not a way to keep animation, choose or extract additional frames, recover detail from a palette-limited GIF, create transparency, or guarantee a smaller download. Check that the receiving browser or service accepts AVIF before replacing the original.
How it works
Drop, paste, or choose one or more GIF files. Fileverses reads them locally in this browser; each file must be below 50 MB.
AVIF is preselected when this browser supports canvas AVIF output. The converter draws the GIF’s first displayed frame as a single still canvas image.
Download the AVIF still, then review its appearance, dimensions, file size, and AVIF compatibility in the site, app, or service that will receive it.
Made for real pipelines
Convert without uploading your assets. Switch outputs anytime — web, print, icons, and document targets from the same batch.
Convert GIF to AVIF stillTurn the GIF’s first displayed frame into one AVIF still when a static image is what the destination needs.
AVIF is offered only when the current browser can create a real image/avif canvas output, avoiding a mislabeled fallback file.
Add up to 50 eligible GIFs, create separate still downloads, and keep the source files in your browser rather than sending them to a server.
Good to know
No. Fileverses draws one GIF frame to a canvas and creates a single still AVIF. It does not preserve GIF animation or provide an animation export. Choose a video or animation workflow when motion must remain.
The browser conversion path draws the GIF’s first displayed frame to the canvas. There is no control to select another frame and no tool here to extract a sequence of frames from the GIF.
AVIF is shown only after Fileverses checks whether the current browser can create an image/avif canvas blob. If that capability is unavailable, select a different output or use a browser with AVIF encoding support.
No. The browser encodes the pixels it decoded from the GIF at the app’s fixed 0.7 AVIF quality setting. Conversion cannot restore colors, edges, or detail limited by the original GIF, and AVIF encoding can change the appearance.
No. The route does not remove backgrounds or invent transparency. AVIF can carry alpha, but the actual result depends on the pixels the browser decoded from the GIF and the browser’s AVIF encoder.
You can queue up to 50 files, with each file under 50 MB; a decoded image over 12 megapixels is rejected. Conversion happens in your browser, so Fileverses does not send the GIF to a conversion server.
