Fileverses

Free online ICNS to PSD guidance

Make a PSD from an ICNS iconwith an extraction-first workflow.

Fileverses does not decode or accept ICNS uploads, so it cannot convert an ICNS file directly to PSD. First extract or render the icon in ICNS-aware software, then add the resulting browser-readable raster image here. Fileverses creates a minimal merged 8-bit RGB PSD with a white background from those decoded pixels locally.

About this converter

Free ICNS to PSD conversion, built for a real workflow.

ICNS is a macOS icon container that can hold multiple icon representations and sizes, while this PSD export is a simple raster handoff. Fileverses recognizes ICNS for upload classification but deliberately rejects it because the browser conversion path has no ICNS decoder, cannot select an embedded representation, and cannot extract an icon from an application bundle. First use ICNS-aware software to extract or render the representation you need as PNG, JPG, WebP, or another browser-readable raster image at the pixel dimensions required by the recipient. From that supported image, Fileverses writes a minimal version-1 PSD with three raw, uncompressed 8-bit RGB channels and one merged composite. It composites decoded transparent pixels onto white before writing the RGB planes, so the PSD has no alpha channel. This is not an editable Photoshop project: it contains no editable layers, layer masks, vectors, text objects, smart objects, color profile, source metadata, or ICNS container data. The external extraction fixes the chosen representation into pixels and cannot recover missing detail, another icon size, or original editable artwork. It also does not crop the icon or remove or replace its background. Keep the original ICNS and inspect the downloaded PSD in the receiving editor; its size depends on the rendered pixel dimensions and is not guaranteed.

How it works

Upload once.
Export PSD.

01

Extract or render the ICNS icon

Use ICNS-aware software to choose the icon representation and export a browser-readable raster image such as PNG, JPG, or WebP at the pixel dimensions the recipient needs. Fileverses cannot decode a direct ICNS upload or extract an icon from an application bundle.

02

Add the extracted image

Drop, paste, or choose the raster export and keep PSD selected. Check its visible edges and background first: the exporter writes one merged RGB image and composites decoded transparency onto white.

03

Download and inspect the PSD

Create the PSD locally, then open it in the receiving editor to check the visible image, white background, pixel dimensions, compatibility, and file size before delivery.

Create a PSD from an extracted ICNS icon
01

Clear ICNS prerequisite

Extract or render the required icon representation in ICNS-aware software first: this browser tool does not decode ICNS containers, select icon entries, or handle application bundles.

02

Minimal merged RGB PSD

Create one uncompressed 8-bit RGB composite from a supported raster image for a visible-image handoff—not editable layers, masks, vectors, profiles, metadata, or ICNS data.

03

White-backed local export

Decoded transparent pixels are composited onto white. Work within the upload and pixel limits, then inspect the background, dimensions, compatibility, and non-guaranteed download size in the receiving editor.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Can Fileverses convert an ICNS file directly to PSD?+

No. Fileverses rejects ICNS uploads because its browser conversion path does not decode ICNS containers, select an icon representation, or extract an icon from an application bundle. First use ICNS-aware software to export a browser-readable raster image, then create the PSD from that image.

What should I extract from ICNS before making a PSD?+

Choose the icon representation whose pixel dimensions suit the destination, then export it as a browser-readable raster image such as PNG, JPG, or WebP. Fileverses works from those decoded pixels; it does not choose an ICNS entry, retain alternate sizes, or recover detail missing from a small extracted icon.

What kind of PSD does this workflow create?+

It writes a minimal version-1 PSD with three uncompressed 8-bit RGB channels and one merged composite. It is intended for a basic visible-image handoff, not an editable Photoshop project.

What happens to transparent areas and backgrounds?+

The PSD has three RGB channels and no alpha channel. Fileverses composites decoded transparent pixels onto white before export. It does not create transparency, crop the icon, remove a background, or replace a background.

Does the PSD retain editable artwork or ICNS metadata?+

No. The extraction turns the chosen icon representation into pixels, and the PSD has no editable layers, masks, vectors, text objects, smart objects, color profile, source metadata, ICNS container data, or other icon representations. Keep the ICNS and any editable source separately.

Are extracted images uploaded, and what limits apply?+

Supported raster images are converted in your browser and are not sent to a conversion server. You can queue up to 50 files under 50 MB each, and a decoded image over 12 megapixels is rejected. PSD download size depends on rendered dimensions and is not guaranteed, so check it against destination limits.
