Free online ICO-to-BMP export

Export a 24-bit BMP froma browser-decoded ICO icon.

Use this free online ICO-to-BMP tool when you need a simple bitmap from an icon image. The browser decodes the uploaded ICO when it can read it, composites transparent pixels onto white, and writes a 24-bit BMP locally—no account or conversion-server upload required.

About this converter

Free ICO to BMP conversion, built for a real workflow.

ICO is an icon container that can hold more than one image representation. This page permits ICO uploads, then relies on the browser's image decoder to render the icon image it can decode; it does not inspect the container, choose an icon entry, build an application bundle, or recover vector artwork. From those browser-decoded pixels, it writes one uncompressed 24-bit Windows BMP with BGR pixels in bottom-up rows and four-byte row padding. Alpha is flattened onto white, so the BMP has no transparent channel. The process does not crop the artwork, remove a background, or restore detail lost before decoding. BMP size follows the rendered width, height, and row padding and is not guaranteed to be smaller than the ICO.

How it works

Upload once.
Export BMP.

01

Add an ICO icon

Drop, upload, or paste an ICO file. The browser must be able to decode the icon image; files over 50 MB and decoded images over 12 megapixels cannot be converted.

02

Keep BMP selected

BMP is selected for a single 24-bit, white-flattened raster. This workflow renders browser-decoded pixels rather than extracting an ICO entry or preserving editable icon data.

03

Export and inspect the bitmap

Create the BMP locally, download it, and check its dimensions and white-composited transparent areas in the destination software.

Convert without uploading your assets. Switch outputs anytime — web, print, icons, and document targets from the same batch.

Export ICO image to BMP
01

Free browser-local export

Create a BMP online with no account while the browser processes the decodable ICO image on your device.

02

Honest icon rendering boundary

Convert browser-decoded icon pixels without claiming ICO-entry extraction, application-bundle creation, or editable/vector recovery.

03

Flattened 24-bit bitmap

Download a BGR, bottom-up BMP with padded rows and white-composited transparent pixels for simple raster workflows.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Is this ICO to BMP export free and online?+

Yes. It is free to use online, needs no account, and creates the BMP in your browser rather than uploading the icon to a conversion server.

Can I upload an ICO file directly?+

Yes, ICO files are allowed by the upload gate. The conversion still depends on your browser being able to decode the icon image; if decoding fails, export that icon to a browser-readable raster first.

Can the tool choose or extract a specific ICO icon entry?+

No. It does not inspect the ICO container or offer icon-entry selection. It exports the pixels rendered by the browser decoder, so choose or export the representation you need elsewhere when exact entry control matters.

What kind of BMP is created?+

The download is one uncompressed 24-bit Windows BMP with BGR pixel data, bottom-up rows, and four-byte row padding. It is a flattened raster image, not an ICO container, app bundle, or editable icon file.

What happens to transparent pixels and the background?+

Transparent pixels are composited onto white before the BMP is written, so the output has no alpha channel. The tool does not remove a background or crop the artwork.

Will the BMP restore detail or have a smaller file size?+

No. Browser decoding and BMP export cannot recover vector artwork or detail lost earlier. BMP stores uncompressed 24-bit rows, so output size depends on rendered dimensions and row padding and may be larger; no size is guaranteed.
